Himba Villages

The Himba still live the way they have for generations, and they receive visitors on their own terms. We go in with a guide who speaks the language, we ask before the camera comes out, and the village is paid directly for the visit.

Etosha National Park

Wait at a waterhole long enough and the whole country walks past you. Etosha is the one park where you do not chase animals — you park, you switch the engine off, and you let them come to the water.

Spitzkoppe

Seven hundred million years of granite rising straight out of a flat gravel plain, with San rock paintings on it and one of the darkest skies on earth above it.

Five hundred million years of river cut down through the rock in layers, and a lodge built in among the granite boulders on the rim of it.

Most of Namibia happens between the places with names on them. These are the gravel plains, the roadside giraffe and the long empty stretches that people end up talking about afterwards.
